What is Flight Carbon Footprint?
The flight carbon footprint represents the total amount of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2), that are emitted by an airplane during a flight. These emissions are a significant contributor to climate change and global warming. Because airplane emissions are released at high altitudes, they have a greater impact on the climate. However, the calculation of a flight's carbon footprint depends on various factors, including the duration of the flight and the type of aircraft used.
Breaking Down the Process: How Is Airplane Carbon Footprint Measured?
Air travel is assessed based on the distance flown, or air kilometers. The carbon footprint of a flight is typically determined by multiplying the distance flown by the CO2 emissions per air kilometer. On average, a single passenger generates about 90 grams of CO2 per kilometer flown.
Using this information, you can estimate the carbon footprint of a flight based on the distance covered. For instance, a 1,000 kilometer flight would produce a carbon footprint of roughly 90 kg/CO2 (90 grams x 1,000 km = 90,000 g/CO2 = 90 kg/CO2). However, this only accounts for emissions from the flight, not the total carbon footprint of the entire journey, such as traveling to the airport and staying overnight.
Why does our calculator converts CO2 released into fuel burned?
Our calculator converts CO2 released into fuel burned because it helps people better understand their environmental impact. For reference, burning one liter of fuel releases an average of 2.3 kilograms of CO2.
NFTCars NFTs: Your Key to Green Living and Flying Carbon Footprint Reduction

At NFTCar, we create unique NFTs by purchasing high-emitting vehicles, scrapping them, and using authenticated data to generate NFTs that represent a reduction in carbon emissions.
How is the quantity of NFTs allocated for each car determined?
To calculate the number of NFTs created for each car, we analyze emissions data such as distance driven, fuel consumption, and date of manufacture to estimate the car's future environmental impact over a 10-year period.
However, we recognize that carbon emissions from other sources, like air travel, must also be taken into account. While our process is transparent and secure, providing 100% verifiability and credibility in tracking carbon reduction, we must continue to strive for reduction in all areas of life to address the bigger picture.
